I enjoyed seeing him in many roles, but I especially enjoyed his performances in 'Pie in the Sky', in which he played Henry Crabbe, a chef/detective and as the humane teacher in 'The History Boys'. I too enjoyed his performances and in the same roles as garden girl mentions, but always wondered about his health. I hasten to say this is the kettle calling the pot black..I would add a mention for his performance as Uncle Monty in Withnail and I I once showed that film to a group of advanced French students who were about to embark on a life in bedsits in London. They didn't understand it at all, but I still remember his acting.
