woolybanana
There seems to be a strange double standard at work here; Liam Britton is being accused of rape and his name is published but a peer (we are told Labour though why that is relevant is a mystery) has also been accused of abuse yet his name is deliberately hidden.Others (eg Peter Bottomly) are being forced to deny claims made on the internet which are not apparently able to be made in the newspapers. Hoddy
I think local papers often don't report family cases our of consideration for the victim. I'm not sure about your legal aid point; child abuse is a crime prosecuted by the state.I wouldn't have thought it was more embarrassing to report sexual abuse by a female but it may well be more difficult to be believed. woolybanana
Many, many years ago when I was a trainee journo. we were severely warned by the magistrates about what we could and could not report in abuse cases. But I do remember one case where a female (the mother) had been abusing her children's friends (male and female). In that case the magistrate gave us carte blanche. We must not imagine that paedophilia is restricted to the UK. In one hushed up case in France, boys from the school choir stayed with former school pupils and staff when touring round France. The on,y problem was that those offering hospitality were also a ring of paedos.
Patf
When we were young it was thought to be a well known fact that senior public schoolboys abused their "fags".Not sure if it was true, but if it is, shows the dramatic change in attitude towards sexual abuse since then.A comment on the radio today suggests that the change is due to there being many more women in top jobs to do with childcare nowadays.
