NormanH
I wasn't very impressed to see that the Statue of Lassus had become a shrine to Micheal Jackson..
mint
What on earth will they think of doing next?[:-))]On another tack, the old Walkman I told you about was bien foutu so I bought a CD player to take with me. Took a Tureck CD I found and here is a bit of her playing the Patita No 6 in E minorhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R-4jVbMecM. Blood pressure behaved impeccably, as expected.Another thing, I was amazed at the sound quality and portability of the CD player. Plus no batteries to worry about, has an in-built battery which I charged using a USB cable.
mint
I was talking to OH about de Lassus and he was sure that we had a CD with a compilation. But, this morning, despite spending half an hour looking through our readily accessible CDs, I couldn't find anything of his.You wouldn't have a link of some sort you could post for me? I had only heard about him and, although I understand that he has a sizeable body of work, I do not recall any of his music.Looking forward greatly to your reply..... NormanH
A hoary old chestnut, and apparently not even by Bach, but still very movinghttps://youtu.be/Rc7muJVEQfcmy VERY FREE translation:If you are close to me I can go happily to death and to my rest.(2 times) ...oh how wonderful would be my end if the last thing my faithful eyes I caught sight of was your lovely hands...' mint
Forgive me, I haven't had the time to listen to your links. Everything is disturbed in my mind and not much in the way of peace and solitude to do the music justice. So that particular delight is yet to come[:)]Just looking for an Andras Schiff CD of the Well-tempered Clavier to take with me to hospital on Wednesday. Alas my CD collection is like my book collection, never could find something when I want it, largely because there is such lack of space in our present house that I am obliged to put things here and there wherever I can fit it in.However, here is a clip of Schiff talking about Bach's music and his understanding of it; an erudite affair, full of humour and thoroughly enjoyable.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdzLWKuo0YA

NormanH
Absolutely delightful. Played by both the orchestra and soloist in a "Mozartian" manner as befits early Beethoven, in a splendid setting with sartorial elegance! We oldies can still perform ( I really liked the conductor) born July 11, 1927, [:)]
mint
Your comment brings to mind a biography (I have read a couple) of Beethoven when, as a young man, he was travelling to visit Mozart. But, during his journey, he received news from his father that his mother had been taken ill.Beethoven turned around and went home to Bonn and never did get another chance to make Mozart's acquaintance. That is yet one incident in the life of Beethoven that I find ineffably sad. I wonder at what might have been.Poor old Beethoven, he really had a lot of unhappiness in his life, starting with his wretched childhood.
