Kitty
Can anyone tell me if there is a ferry strike next week? (I may need to be travelling by Brittany Ferries.)
sommebay
Yesterday,I read this on www. guardianunlimited.co.uk/france. It may affect your journey, hope not. "Trade union leaders gave Mr de Villepin this evening's deadline to withdraw his law, warning that otherwise they would meet tonight to discuss calling a general strike, possibly on Thursday. CBC
This morning's news on the radio said there will be a strike next Tuesday, 28th March. Best thing surely is to check with BF?
Val_2
Strikes can happen very fast here. A few times in the past couple of years a ferry has arrived at Roscoff and the people start to unload and then, all hell breaks out because certain union members down tools and the whole place grinds to a halt within minutes. No one can get off or out of the terminal and those waiting to go back on the return trip cannot move either. If you are worried, take some food and drink with you, warm clothes and be prepared for anything. There are so many unions here and not everyone belongs to the same as his workmate. Will
At the moment, the ferry companies are expecting services to be running as normal. But as Val says, the situation can change quickly, one way or the other. Brittany Ferries says that you should make sure they have a mobile phone number for you if you intend to travel on 28 March so they can inform you of any cancellations. Otherwise, it may be better to move your travel plans by one day if you need to be somewhere next week. There should not be too many problems with that as the ferries are not full at this time of year.
