Chancer
All the channel ports in Le Nord Pas De Calais are currently blockaded following strike action originating form the marin pecheurs at Boulogne Sur Mer.Anyone planning to travel should contact their ferry company before leaving. Pierre ZFP
I also heard on the radio that Dunkerque was blockaded too yesterday. I came through (Dover to Dunkerque) yesterday afternoon and there was no sign of a blockade at all. A French colleague said it was reported on TV and the Red Cross were involved somehow ???He also said, with some amusement, that an English woman was interviewed saying that such actions damage French/English relationships. My colleague's attitude was 'So what?'. Maybe it would be a bit different if his income relied on tourism.
FerryGuru
Listening to BBC News at lunchtime, the ferry companies are reporting that the strikes are costing them close to £1million per day and are currently putting together legal action to sue the individual fishermen rather than the Port of Calais/Dunkerque. If I remember rightly when the fishermen blocked Le Havre and LD Lines did this they very soon backed down.
Nelson
I can certainly confirm that Dunkerque was and as far as I know still is.Drove onto ferry at 17:00 hrs Tuesday 14th, left ferry in Dover 13:00 Wednesday 15th. Fishermen in Calais ordered to pay €1000 per boat per hour of disruption and those in Boulogne €5000 per boat per hour of disruption.Bailiffs are currently serving the court orders .... Richard East
Luckily I'm not suck in Calais (having come back a few days ago).... but if I were I'd file a European Small claims to recover the costs I would incurred against the port, CGT and the individual fishermen.I hope the poor sods stuck there do! Dog
I don't understand why people wait at these northwestern French ports that are blockaded when Belgium is just an hour away and they will take the same tickets.
Pierre ZFP
What routes/lines is that then from Belgium?I'm interested because it could be a good alternative for me when I drive up from Luxembourg.
Department71
Its a shame the ferries can't re-route to Ostende when these things happen, then the French can get on with it.
