Patf
Could someone please translate this word? There should be acute accentson both e's. The context is : " Les chasseurs qui demandaient lasuspension d'une decision .....interdisant l'usage des appelants.......ont ete DEBOUTES ..par le conseil d'Etat." I looked in thedictionary and it said "standing". I think appelants are decoys.Pat.
Christine Animal
It means to be nonsuited, to have one's suit dismissed. That's what they were rioting about recently as they are not allowed to use their appelants, live ducks with clipped wings, which are put on the water to attract the wild ducks. This is a sanitary precaution because of the bird flu.Bye till next year, Pat!

Clair
Funny that...I use them all the time and I know them by heart!I found the codes in Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Character MapMaybe your character map isn't enabled...? I've done a search in my PC and this is how to find it:To add or remove a Windows component Open Add/Remove Programs properties in Start/Settings/Control Panel. Click the Windows Setup tab, and then do one of the following: To add all parts of a component, select its check box. To remove all parts of a component, clear its check box. To add or remove some parts of a component, click Details, and then select or clear check boxes for those parts. Another way to open Control Panel is to click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. If you don't see the item you want, click view all Control Panel options. If you used a CD to install Windows, you will be prompted to insert it into your computer. Can you "insert symbol" when you're in a word processor program? They're usually based on the same table.Good luck!
Jonzjob
I have our PC set up so that we can toggle between a 'qwerty' and 'azerty' keyboard. We are using XP and here's how we did it.Start - Settings - Control Panel. Select Regional & Language, click on the Languages tab on that window, click on Details and a Text Services and Input Languages window appears. You then click on Add and expand the table for Input Language. Select French (France) and OK. Then you select English for the Default Input Language. All done... It seems a bit long, but the advantage is that you only have to do it once and when you want to use é all you do is to press Alt and Uppercase at the same time and you have an AZERTY keyboard. All we did then was to note down the speçial characters. The same proceedure works with Windoze 2000 Pro too.If you have a machin with the dreaded English (US) as the base language then you can change it while you are in there. When I was in the Royal Air Force US always meant unservicable [^o)]!Good luck and remember the average PC is as user friendly as a cornered rat!John. (give me a main frame any day!!!)
