Cassis
"Tu n'es pas foutu d'organiser quoi que ce soit."Doesn't have quite the same punch, to my way of thinking.

Albert the InfoGipsy
I once actually knew a bloke who failed to organise a p/u in a brewery. When the mini-bus got to Shepherd Neame they were told 'No, you booked for yesterday.'
lepetithibou
Thanks for all the replies. Firstly, as you see this is my first post (? well actually, I've been a member since there were only about 100 of us back in 2000, I was lost in the ether when things were moved and I've been VERY busy since. I remember Bill before he conquered and some good discussions with a Scottish farmer in the Creuse).Anyway Louise, I wanted to know as I've been working recently with some French guys whose boss couldn't ... and I was trying to explain the English idiom literally but it lost something in translation.Albert, I think I know the guy you're talking about!!Thanks Saucisson, I'll try tomorrow and see if they understand. Cat
I think the following link has been posted before, but it is quite a useful reference for translating idiom equivalents.http://www.e-frenchtranslation.com/proverbs.htm#Uncover%20the%20mystery. Like a lot of things I'll never understand. I'll try to remember it as "He doesn't provide a toffee".
Cassis
A bit equivalent to 'not worth a toffee'?
Can't (do something) for toffee was what we used to say when someone was useless at something. I guess it's close-ish.
