YCCMB Posted October 13, 2013 Share Posted October 13, 2013 I'm having a spot of bother finding a suitable - short - bon mot or two to add to something I'm making, and could do with some help, if anyone can (and I'm sure someone can).Here's the thing..I have been commissioned to make a ceramic tile (I make and sell ceramics as a bit of a sideline) for my French neighbours to give to their farm labourer as a memento of his marriage earlier this summer. My neighbour saw a similar one I'd made for another person, but the writing on it was in English. The tile is 10cm square, so leaves little room for a great long piece of writing. The English one I made had a little cartoon, the names of the couple, the date, and about 4 words of text in the form of a suitable wish for the future.I need to come up with something similar and equally short in French, but all the things I've found whilst Googling seem to be about a paragraph in length, which won't do at all. Not exactly, Pat...more something along the lines of, I dunno...Here's one I found "Being married is the nicest thing to be" Which is a bit too twee..but about the right length. But, of course, the unspoken bit in French which doesn't follow in English is "Et eurent beaucoup d'enfants.." which I'd prefer not to imply!
