having moved here in august 04 my family and i are about to have our second christmas here

this year we have been invited around a friends house to spend christmas eve with them

nice you think ! only our friends are french and we dont wish to make any major fopars that evening

we have two young kids 7 and 9 and they have kids similar ages

any tips ???????????????:

If you are spending the whole Christmas EVE with them then I would expect to be fed a multi course festive meal as this is when the French have their 'Christmas dinner'. Go on an empty stomach.

They also tend to open their presents at midnight (in theory after Mass). Maybe take a wrapped present, especially for their kids.

Re, Noel and the presents,

It might be a good idea to talk to your friends beforehand and ask what they plan for the evening, also get an idea of what would be a suitable to give as presents.

I am sure it will be a wonderful experience and how generous of them to invite you.
