Loiseau
I have just finished reading "The President's Hat", which a friend lent me. It is rather charming, and such a good translation that I actually wondered whether it was really originally written in English and only masquerading as a French book. However, I have just googled the publishers, Gallic Books, and see that they do indeed specialise in publishing modern French fiction, so I thought their list might be of interest to forum members.http://gallicbooks.com/our-books/I am nothing to do with the company, by the way...Angela
Mac
I enjoyed it as well. We read it as my book club choice and everyone else thought it was a very good book.
LisaInFrance
I read "The Stranger" by Albert Camus a few years ago. It was still a very good read and the translation was good, but I did wonder what I was missing by not reading it in French. Unfortunately my French is just not good enough. idun
My favourite book since my early 20's is The Count of Monte Cristo, a translated book, in fact thanks for the reminder, I shall have to read it yet [:D] again.
NormanH
You could have a look at it in French here Lisa, then read the page in English to compare it:http://www.ebooksgratuits.com/pdf/camus_l_etranger.pdfI have always disliked it, finding it cold racist and contemptuous, but many would disagree with me.
