idun
I made a syllabub today, Rum and Lime. If I replaced the small amount of sugar with sweetner, would it be suitable for a diabetic. The recipe was 150ml good dark rum, and it was, brought back for us by our french neighbours when they had been to the Carib.Juice and rind of four limes100 grs icing sugar, which I would replace.300 thick cream. So would a diabetic be able to have this? Incidentally it is good.

idun
Yes, I see, thanks. We have a diabetic friend we don't see very often and I like to make something that we can all have, that everyone will enjoy.
tinabee
Idun - ask your diabetic friend. Many diabetics do drink alcohol in moderation, but some don't. Also, many diabetics need to avoid high fat foods, e.g. thick cream. So it really is best to ask.If it is off the menu, have a look on the canderel site http://www.canderel.co.uk/recipes
idun
It's ok tinabee, I have lots of recipes for pud, it is just today's was so delicious that I thought I might adapt it. I'll ask them when I invite them if alcohol'll be a problem.
Val_2
I don't think that amount of sugar will hurt any diabetic. Our previous maire, an insulin pump dependent diabetic was always tucking into the puds and knocking back the whiskey at our council dinners out and my OH, a type 2 sufferer was allowed sugar as long as he kept an eye on the readings and had none for a few days after. Why not ask the guest how they feel, they can have a tiny portion perhaps?
idun
Well if it was between the rum and the sugar, I would put sweetner in. Lovely pud after a rich meal though, tangy and refreshing.
