nomoss
I don't usually read "pub" which appears in the mailbox, but just noticed that a recipe for "Tarte aux AbricotsAmandine" in Carrefour's current "Contact" magazine includes powdered apricot kernels, added to the ingredients of thealmond cream covering for the tart, to give it extra flavour.Evidently they are not aware that apricot kernels arepoisonous, unless cooked, as they contain cyanide.I believe apricot kernels are sold as "health food" in some countries, and that a healthy adult would have to eat about 4 ounces of kernels to be killed, but it doesn't seem to be good way of adding almond flavour, especially for children! andyh4
But then Chocolate is poisonous* as well and no one bats an eyelid at using that in desserts.* LD 50 for an average adult is estimated at 22kg so less of an issue than the apricot kernels.
