Dick Smith
I meant his first wife, Vivien(ne) - she had 'mental health issues' and was institutionalised for several years before her death. I quote the man:"I came to persuade myself that I was in love with [Vivienne] simplybecause I wanted to burn my boats and commit myself to staying inEngland and dying. And she persuaded herself that she would save the poet by keeping him in England. To her themarriage brought no happiness. To me it brought the state of mind outof which came The Waste Land." cooperlola
That may have been his version of events, Fluff! However, I suspect, to be fair, that mental illness was not exactly dealt with in a sympathetic way back then. Although I doubt if life with TSE was a picnic! Dick Smith
Not sure, he was certainly a man of many facets if not faces. It was certainly an unhappy marriage, but I've no knowledge of where fault, if any, lay.
