I do a lot of knitting for Granchildren but I always struggle to find buttons in the colours I need. Can anyone suggest a good stockist of buttons ?

The shop that sell buttons (and anything associated with dress-making) is called une mercerie.

Try finding one in your area on pagesjaunes.fr.

I found that our local EMMAUS has a section devoted to buttons old & new, good prices, lots of choice & the money is going to help the homeless.

Have you looked at your nearest town's market? Our town has a weekly market where there is always a stall which is full of all sizes, shapes and colours of buttons, also zips and all kinds of paraphenalia and oddments for sewing.

Many thanks for your replies. I will try our local market but I think I have found a shop through yellow pages close to where I live. Once again thank you all.
