Rhubarb

Hi,

I have two rhubarb crowns about 2 or 3 years old (I think - already here when we bought the house). They live in a corner of the garden which is easy to miss. I haven't looked a them for a few weeks and disovered this morning that on the two of them there are about a dozen flower spikes!

What should I do about them, ignore them or cut them off?

You must cut them off while they are short - don't let them get too high or it will go to seed and it's difficult for the plant to re-gain it's vigour after this happens.

You can dig it up and  seperate the rhubarb into several plants  when it's about 5 years old - wait 'til the leaves dry up -  normally autumn time.  Apart from that rhubarb doesn't need much attention.
