Andy is right; you need to know the volume.

And my experience is that it's better to over estimate than to under estimate.  If you underestimate, they could charge you right over the odds on Moving Day as they then play on your not wishing to leave anything behind. Best to get a proper quote, one that genuinely reflects what you need to have transported.

What I found really difficult was estimating the volume.  In the end, we had to pile everything up and measure the pile and then add a bit extra. 

We then imagined everything being put into a room of which we knew the dimensions (and therefore the volume) and, as Idun has pointed out, that was only the "fun" bit; the rest was to come!
