hakunamatata
I am delighted that after 6 years and several ops my specialist has said I can now drive. He has prescribed two sets of glasses for me, one for short distance, one for driving. I must admit I have never seen prescriptions for glasses like the French ones they just look totally different from an English prescription. My question is do the English sites recognise these French prescriptions or am I better going to a French optician. My prescription is complicated and although I do not want to spend a fortune I want to get it right. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Pommier
I bought glasses off a UK company called glasses2you.com. I was very pleased with them - and they only cost £18! That was from a UK prescription, but presumably they could interpret a French prescription. Why not try emailing them and asking if they'd have any problem? Chancer
Haka.........When I have time (I have to eat now!) I will look at out a brochure that I have toexplain your prescription in terms that you will recognise.Dont worry your prescription looks quite familiar to me, the last bits are astigmatism and how many degrees I think, some of the on-line specs people especially the American ones actually have a page that explains/translates European prescriptions, you may well find the answer while you are waiting for me.Great news re the driving, what ops did you have (I am a veteran!). Jazzer
I use Selectspecs and Glasses2you and send the prescription as an attachment with no problems.
hakunamatata
Hi ChancerWhat ops have I had? What have I not had! 20 years ago iridectomy to each eye. Later cataract on the left, then three years ago cataract on the right which then became a scar and vision became worse than before the cataract op so the surgeon here performed a 20min laser op which has cleared the scar. Glaucoma and sever astigmatism as you rightly say. I have not have new glasses for over 6 years and not driven for 6 years. Still I can still find my mouth with the glass of wine! Thanks for your post
5-element
I had no problem ordering glasses from a UK online supplier using my French prescription. This may help (translation).
What a great site, Clair! Thank you. I'd better dig out and try to decipher my French prescription - I hadn't done anything with it yet as specs are so expensive here, and I had been hoping to go to the UK and get them there.... Clair
I have not dealt with this supplier. I ordered from another (also with a French and English website), but I'd rather not name them, not because I was unhappy with them (I did get the specs and they were just fine), but because it took much longer for the order to arrive than stated and I wouldn't want to read any unhappy stories here (as I did after naming a British food supplier on the forum last year)... Chancer
HakuI cannot find the leaflet, it may be in the UK but post again if the site doesnt help you.It was only when I had my accident and lost the use of my left eye that I realised how poor the remaining right eye had been, I had to literally relearn everything, I remember being ashamed and detrmined in equal measure when I could not at first walk along a straight corridoor without a nurse holding my arm.Eating with a knife and fork like many other everyday things that we take for granted was very difficult and had to be relearnt in a differnt manner, strange what you say about the wine glass as I too had no problems with that, perhaps after having been blind drunk so many times [:)]I vividly remember having the laser treatment for a secondary cataract after having had the post operative cataract removed and replaced with a lens. It made an amazing difference.
