Gyn_Paul
Several threads overthe years have discussed the possibility (or usually impossibility) ofreceiving SECAM signals on a UK-origin (PAL-I) set.The usual response is that a UKset won't receive french off-air signals, but you can get a monochrome picturefrom the SCART connection from a French VHS machine.More recently I think it was MartinWatkins who said that certain Philips models of DVD recorders will apparentlyproduce a colour RGB signal which will give you colour, off-air pictures on a UK set. Let me add to that the Targa Model DRH 5500, currently on sale in Lidl here in France. It’s a350Gb hard disk recorder with a multi-standard tuner. The scart output of whichis RGB colour, so will also happily produce off-air colour pics on a (-n ostensibly) PAL set. Let me add the usualdisclaimers that : I have no link with, orfinancial interest in, the company (I should be so lucky!). Other makes and modelsmay well provide the same features. Please ask permission ofthe person who pays the bill before making the call. Microphone, stands, cables, screens and adaptors must not be taken from this studio except formaintenance purposes.(sorry, got carriedaway there for a moment!)p
Tim
Just to provide some sort of balance P - I've got a couple of Sony DVD recorders that have multi-standard tuners and will do the same thing with a Secam signal.Tim
Martin963
Indeed I did say that; in more detail the Philips (for all their other failings!) produce a composite PAL signal (as well as RGB) from SECAM source material, which can be useful if (like me) you use an RF distribution system to feed sets round the house. In our case we SCART link the Philips DVD recorder (which has no RF output) to a VCR, which when suitably configured squirts the Philips baseband output onto its own RF outpuut, et voila UK PAL-I sets respond by producing colour.Cheap at the price compared to a dedicated transcoder. Nice to know that there are plenty of other machines that do the same.PS It's my birthday today and a worse bit of typing you would not see, I hope I've suitably corrected my first drunken attempts. The funny part about June 18th is if you ask the French what day it signifies they reply " Ah, c'était le jour de l'appel du Gen de Gaulle (1940)". They have no recollection of Waterloo wahtsoever - or whatsoever.
