Anton Redman
" As has been mentioned I can use my boxes without the cards but getting to channel 5 is a pain when you have 2 boxes as the sky remote operates both boxes. "Small piece of "L" section metal to cover the LED receptor in one box when setting up the recording box then transfer to the shield to the recording box. A drag but it does work

Anton Redman
Leave the card out for upto 48 hours the rest of the channels should gradually come back.Edit - probably best to start this last thing at night or first thing in the morning if going out for the day. They have extension IR transmitters which change the channel on the Skybox so one box has a Tivo IR TX taped to it whilst the other is open to the other Tivo IR TX and the remote which means that box can still be controlled with the remote if necessary, which it seldom is.The only time I need to touch either of the Sky boxes is after a power interruption when I have to press Power and then Back Up on the taped up one. I had the same problem but managed to buy a new white card over there and get it posted, pre-activated, to France. I found some on specialist satelite providers' sites in France but they wanted around 150ā¬ on average. I paid 30 with postage. Now I can watch The Unit again.[:)]

Jonzjob
We have had the same problem and the only difference is that we have Sky+ HD. We have been getting the message about inserting a new card, but as we haven't been sent one! The new card is 'supposed' to be going to my daughters which is complicated by her moving house. If you want to phone from France and hide your phone number just put 3651 in front of 0044 and it will with-hold your number, BUT yet another complication in that we have a VOIP phone via our Livebox and it doesn't seem to like the 3651 and internationa calls because it come up with the engaged tone as soon as the dialing has finnished! Edit :- I dragged our card out on Monday after getting the message every 2 mins and after reading this I have put it back again about an hour ago. No messages so far! Also chucking in a new PSU @ Ā£17 for good measure.
Jonzjob
Shame you ordered that one Ernie http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-WD10EADS-OEM-Internal/dp/B001IEZX3G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257791826&sr=1-1 [6]Not sure how easy it would be to format it to multimedia though? AnOther
I know I could have bought a bigger one for less JJ but being Linux based they are a complete pain to set up, you need to need to FTP all sorts of stuff over if you want some of the multitude of hacks and 3rd party apps, so took the easy way out [:$]Anyway I only ever record in basic quality and 445 hours recording time is quite enough for me !Do you currently have any Tivo's ? Jonzjob
I hadn't ever heard the name until I read your Post Ernie. We have Sky+HD now. We just had French terestral until last December and enjoyed it but decided that we wanted a bit more after 4 years of French TV. Now it's yelling for a new card to be installed which is difficult being as the p!llocks haven't sent us one yet!If they had a brain cell they would be dangerous!A terror-bite disk! That is more disk space than all of the humongous disk room at Brakleys Bonk Golucester had when I was an IBM eng there and that was a case of going in the place in winter in the dark mornings and leaving in the dark at 5.30 p.m. and not seeing daylight all day! This you can put in your pocket![:-))]
AnOther
Sorry, mixed you up with Anton [:$]About the only 2 things UK Tivo's don't do are HD and dual tuners but in virtually all other respects they are, IMO, far superior to any other PVR and I'm prepared to spend whatever is necessary to keep mine going. Fortunately a cottage industry has sprung up to support them and if they had been more sensibly priced and properly advertised and understood back in 1999 when they were first introduced in UK they would as big in there as they are in the US where nobody records programmes, they 'Tivo' them !http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=
