allanb
I keep the records for an association, and I often struggle to decipher an e-mail address which has been hand-written on an application form. Usually, the address would be much more legible if it had been written in uppercase letters.I would like to put on the form "please use capital letters", but it seems to be widely believed that e-mail addresses are case-sensitive, so that 'JohnSmith@Orange.com' is different from 'johnsmith@orange.com'. I don't think they are different; I think you can use uppercase and lowercase as you like, but can anyone confirm that this is universally true? AnOther
In 99.99% of cases email addresses are not case sensitive.Universally though ? I might not stick my neck out on that one as some provider could for their own purposes step outside the accepted norm, but it would be daft and rare. pachapapa
domain not case sensitive; local mailbox case sensitive but many ISP allow non case sensitive use.

Mr Coeur de Lion
I just sent myself an email from one of my gmail accounts and sent in uppercase, no problems in receiving at all.
