Great SPA in the Vendée

Recommended Posts

Last Monday I learnt that at Niort (Niort refuge site) Uppercut a three year old "type Labrador" was going to be put down on Wednesday.  I phoned several refuges in Poitou-Charentes trying to find one who could take him, but all were full.  On the Tuesday afternoon I spoke to Madame Lengliné, Présidente of two refuges in the Vendée, Château d'Olonne and La Roche sur Yon.  She agreed to save Uppercut by taking him exceptionally at their Château d'Olonne shelter and I can't thank her enough.

So on Saturday I drove to Niort, then took Uppercut on to Château d'Olonne.  There was a wonderful friendly atmosphere there with plenty of people helping to take care of the animals, walking the dogs, etc.  All the dogs, male and female, are neutered prior to adoption and of course identified and vaccinated.

If you are in or near the Vendée and would like a rescue dog or cat, don't hesitate to support these two refuges.  Here is their site, if you click on the adoptions there are lots of photos and by clicking on each photo there is a little description/story of the pet.

Here is Uppercut, now at Château d'Olonne, and who is eager to have a home

I have just seen that they have at Château d'Olonne a lovely female Great Dane, Agathe, only eighteen months old.  They say she is soft and gentle and loves children and is fretting in the refuge.

There are also a couple of three month old Labrador cross pups, Ouragan and Doug

Uppercut is still there and they can all be seen here  http://www.spa-85000.org/adoptions/chiens/index.php

Christine, I am sometimes quite overcome with admiration for you and the work that do.  You seem to be indefatigable.  Of course, as she is a Dane, it is poor Agathe especially who is catching at my heart.  Only 18 months old and by the look of her she has already had a litter.  She must have been pregnant at little more than a year old and in dogs as large as Danes, that is really far, far too young.  Unfortunately, as you know, I already have two Danes and just do not have the room for another, also, I do not believe that Utopie would accept another b itch.  To anyone out there who does not know Danes, believe me, there can be few dogs more rewarding.  They are intelligent and affectionate and a joy to live with.  Also, they do not cost nearly so much to feed as people think.  I feed mine the top premium complete food and it costs approx. 110 euro tops per month for two Danes and there are certainly cheaper rations available although 'dirt cheap' is not to be recommended.  If you are thinking of getting a dog, please consider that lovely Agathe.  Danes do not do well kennelled and she needs a loving home very, very soon.

Hi Christine,

That is fantastic news for Agathe, I am sure that her new owners will love her to bits,  there are no dogs like Danes, but then I am very biased![:P]  I am also very happy for Uppercut,  he looks like such a lovely boy.  The refuge they both went to sounds great.  What would all the unwanted doggies do without such caring people as you and the other refuge providers?
