Christine Animal
The French animal programme « 30 millions d’Amis » disappeared for several weeks, leaving way to the Tour de France. They said they will be back next week, Sunday 31st July, at 17.20 on France 2 and will be in Jersey. May be of interest to some of you who come from there. On the agenda they mentioned donkeys and greyhounds. Are greyhounds « typical » of Jersey? I did not know this.http://www.30millionsdamis.fr/FR/Emission/Ausommaire/Pasdemissioncettesemaine.aspChristine

Christine Animal
The greyhounds in Jersey are « rescued greyhounds ». On yesterday’s programme we saw a couple who have saved several of them and find homes for others with families on the island. It was lovely to see them with their beautiful collars running around on the beach at Saint Brelade’s. When in their home, they were all lying around quietly on their cushions. We had a Barzoi, Ibis, who was the same, very quiet and dignified, but sometimes outside didn’t he go. One day a group of the dogs were together in the grass after something, Ibis just fled down the garden to the group and in a flash turned round with a squeaking mouse in his mouth, just like a hawk, before the others even realised what was going on.They said yesterday that there are around 10,000 unwanted racing greyhounds a year in Britain, 5,000 of which are put down. The Plight of Greyhounds :http://www.greyhoundsinneed.co.uk/natureofproblem/natureofproblemFrame.htm?http&&&www.greyhoundsinneed.co.uk/natureofproblem/history_of_gin2001.htm On « 30 Million d’Amis » yesterday there was a young French girl who has two little pigs and a Golden Retriever. She said that pigs are even more intelligent than dogs and has taught them all sorts of tricks. She has specially adapted her house for them and her car (because she takes them for walks), which even has an airbag at the back. She has also made a website and takes care of rehoming « cochons nains ».
