Gyn_Paul
I can't speak forother departements, but here there is a pot of money for roads in La creuse(23) some of which is spent on 'D' roads and some of it is devolved to theindividual communes - along with their own funding, which they in turn use to maintaintheir 'C' roads... or not. The recent result was that our commune re-surfacedour perfectly respectable chemin, to the standard as detailled earlier -complete with the lethal gravel topping - while in the neighbouring communethere is at least one road I know which is a pot-holed gravel track which isfurther washed away by each storm. A few miles up the D1 you drive into the(much richer) dept of Indre (36). You don't need a sign to tell you where thedepartmental border is; the pinging of loosened fillings ricocheting round thecar is sign enough. If only people would learn to share !p
