val douest
We have a large traditional fireplace (complete with bread oven) in the dining area which we have never known quite what to do with. We don't really need it for warmth (oil fired ch and a poele in the living room) but it looks very sad and empty in the winter. If we light a fire we either have to leave all the doors wide open (which somewhat defeats the purpose) or we get smoked out, despite having had the chimney swept and checked over. But - we had an idea (one of our better ones, as it turns out)! We ordered a cast iron chiminea (designed as a patio heater and barbecue) and have put it in the fireplace where its long chimney sits right inside the existing chimney. Today we have had a splendid small fire going in it, plenty warm enough to take the edge off the chilly side of the room and a really attractive focal point which was what we wanted. We are delighted with it and for under £150 including carriage from the UK it has given us what we wanted without having to tear the fireplace to pieces. I just wanted to pass on the information as I know other people have the same problem. The supplier was jakana trading reached through www.ebay.co.uk (not an actual auction as they have an e-bay shop).Val
Fantine

Susie
Sounds lovely, and being in the dining room you could do a little BBQ and serve straight to the table !
