Fi
Does anyone know what "decking" is in french please? The only translation I can find is ponte for deck. I have seen decking squares in one or two of the local diy stores, but not the long lengths of decking that are available in the UK - has anyone seen these anywhere. We have quite a large area that we would like to deck and the long lengths would be more practical; we are also looking for someone who would be able & willing to build the deck/terrace for us.We are located in 17 near to St. Jean D'Angely.Any help appreciated - thanksFionawww.treize.co.uk
Gyn_Paul
"Lames de Terrasse Rainurees Autoclave" is the pressure-treated stuff. Available in Brico Depot in 2.40m x 120mm x 27mm for 2E50 a piece, according to the 'arrivages' catalogue.p
Simon
Could the local saw mill run you off some cedar?RegardsSimon
emma5
on one of my many trips to la rochelle airport, i popped in to castorama and they had loads of long strip decking, i cant remember how much it was though. Emma Pons

Iceni
Make sure the decking is pressure treated. We have done a really nice large deck this year which covers a crumbling concrete monstrosity that the previous owner left. The problem was that it was too well built - we could not easily remove it but the top of the terrace was not touching the sides so was dropping at an alarming rate. It was also made of white patterned stone with shocking pink mortar - I have photos to prove that this monstrosity existed and also the after photos of a smashing deck. It is in the region of 5 foot high so we have also put a nice balustrade round it bought from a local wood merchant who specialises in this and not our usual brico or supplier. We treated the deck with Ronseal decking oil (no comments about better products pls, too late now, it is done). The only thing I would say is that you need twice as much as the tin says you need.I am sure you will build a great deck and the difference it makes is amazing - the funny thing is that folk admire the deck and then they go into raptures about the fantastic views we have - seems the 5 foot drop from a shocking pink cracking horror sort of kept their eyes on the ground. If you are putting a deck round a swimming pool, seems you need to take more care of the origination of the decking wood and its treatment. Fi
Unfortunately we won't be able to afford to put the pool in next year so will just have to leave a pool size gap ready for the year after - a large paddling pool will be more our style next year which is a shame but there you are....the deck will be covering up the multitude of surfaces including the really scraggy grass, gravel path & shingle driveway.would love to see a picture of your new deck if you have one Di?Fionawww.treize.co.uk
