Unknown
HelloWe need to replace some broken windows in our barn. The frames are good, so only want to replace the glass. Any idea where we can get some cut to size, the cheaper the better. We live in dept 79.Many thanks
Will
I always go to the local Bricomarché, not too dear but there are probably cheaper places around.
Cassis
Like Will, I go to a shed - Brico Depot or Mr Bricolage. I find the prices expensive compared with what I was used to in the UK where I would buy full or half sheets from a glazier or a picture-framing wholesaler and cut to size myself, but I've never seen the equivalent here. Unknown
Thank you chaps, I thought you may say that. Glass seems so expensive here in France was hoping you may be able to point me in the direction of a glass person, whatever they are called. Dick Smith
Bricomarché do a good cutting service, and wrap the glass up VERY carefully for you. I didn't think it was expensive at all.A glazier is un vitrier, btw.

Cassis
€21 m2 is still dear - about twice the UK price for 3mm or 4mm from the glazier. Do vitriers sell to the public?
Meg
Castorama cut glass also. Not sure on how the price compares with other places. (I'm guessing it may be similar....??)Louise

As for grumbling, I hadn't noticed much more thantongue in cheek grumbles....Anyway if you're quick you can catch theCharlotte Church repeat on the box right now. Tresco
Dave, you will have gathered by now that Cassis is a male sausage, not female. [:P]Dotty, we got ours from a Brico Depot. I thought it was expensive, but it was even worse when we found out that 'He Who Is Never Wrong' had eeerrmmmm, got it wrong.[:-))]I love your Avatar, Dotty: the Original, and the Best! Unknown
Lets not argue over cut glass, I only asked a simple question of which I'm greatful for the answers. Thanks Tresco, thought it was about time the old girl made a reappearance, I've had my hair cut anyway. WendyG
HiJust thought I would say I always buy my replacement glass at LeClerc - very helpful as I frequently get mixed up with the sizing. They don't cut glass in August which I have found happens with most of them. We have not found a specialist glass provider/cutter but presumably they must exist. One of those places will only discover when everything has been done.Good luck

I make asimple observation that I find glass dearer here and ask if you can getit cheaper from vitriers or somewhere else rather than going to thesheds and you come out with that - what's your gripe? Your post doesn't really hurt that much, thanks, but it's still a load of cobblers.Ihave never said the weather is worse; I have never said the people arecrap; I have never said the buildings are jerry built. For the record, the weather is better (usually); all the French I know have been warmand welcoming; and I have on several occasions defended French buildersagainst others' attacks. I am also on record in several posts where I have said that I find the overall cost of living here about the same as in the UK.I have no idea where you are coming from withthis. I can only assume you've managed to confuse me with someone else. [8-)]
