Jazzer
I am about to start repointing. The instruction book for the compressor recommends SAE40 oil. However in most of the DIY shops I have seen compressor oil viscosity 100 alongside compressors.Would anyone know if the two are compatible? Gluestick
SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers {of America}) 40 is far thinner than 100 viscosity.Compressor oil is different to normal motor oil as it has to resist taking water from the air into suspension and thus becoming an emulsion.I must say however, that SAE 100 would be approaching rear axle oil! Are you absolutely sure this is correct?
Jazzer
Many thanks for your reply. I did in fact buy the oil and the carton says-oil for piston compressors Viscosity 100 produced by Prodif Air Comprime H150,.
Gluestick
I'm sure it will be fine.In any case, when oil warms up its viscosity changes, of course. Too high a viscosity in this case would normally only create extra drag on the moving parts.Out of interest, where your oil states its viscosity (100) are there any other letters/numbers/ like DIN??
