chocccie
I've read much conflicting advice and information, here and on various websites, about whether it is OK to use PVA on concrete floors to seal them prior to laying tiles. So say "no, no, never" others say it's ok. Are there any professional out there who can settle this for me? Can I use PVA, or is it unwise?I have masses of PVA but no specilaist floor sealer (which I spotted at Bricolage at 45 Euro for 5 litres... is this the sort of price I should be paying?).Many thanks. BIG MAC
Why seal at all unless the floor is friable if its PVC tiles. If its ceramic tiles then PVA should be fine. The idea of the PVA is not to provide a membrane, the floor should have that already or be moisure resist concrete as is the French way. The PVA is there to reduce suction on the adhesive from the substrate and allow even drying forming the best possible bed...nuffink to do with waterproofing at all. If the slab is suceptible to damp I have used Bituthene below tiles before now to good effect.
