Relaying Terracotta Tiles

Hi

We have an old house in the Tarn,

many of the rooms have 25mm thick terracotta tiles laid on a soft mortar base on

top of the wooden floors. A lot of the

floors are un even or have loose tiles.

Can any one please advise what the correct material is for

re laying these, they do not appear to be “stuck” down. If one is removed there is little or no

mortar on the back. I realise that as the

wooden floor flexes the base can not be rigid but it needs to be firm enough to

support the tile when weight is applied. Are the tiles laid on to a wet mortar ? Any tips / advice gratefully received.
