Banyuls sur Mer

Quite randomly, my wife and I have elected to have a week, mid-Feb, based as far south as we could go, just for a change of scenery.

We don't know the area at all, but if anyone has a "must see", "must do" or "must eat at" to share, we would be very grateful.

We will be looking to travel a maximum of 90 minutes some days to take in as much as we can.

Do go over the border and explore a bit of Catlunya. Girona, Dali Museum I particularly like Palafrugell

Try the anchovies from Collioure.

Have a trip up to Quéribus and Peyrepertus

Carcassonne is a huge tourist attraction but I find it awfully tacky

Try a good Banyuls which is an excellent replacement for sherry

Touron is a sort of Spanish nougat

Enjoy the sunshine and try to keep out of the wind [:D]

Nice museum / art gallery at Ceret - and town is pretty and not too large to visit. 

If you are into the origins of man, Tautavel, north of Perpignan....
