Springer
We've just had our offer accepted on a property in Normandy and will hopefully be signing the compris this week. What is our next step regarding the transfer on money? We have no French bank a/c as yet, do we open one first? are we able to do this even though we don't have a french address yet.Basically what is the desired approach from now. From buying euros to paying at the end does anyone know a format which to follow.Hoping for help, Regards John
Georgina
You should open a bank account but this is not necessary to transfer funds. You will be given details of the notaires account to transfer money and you should then check out the best rate for your exchange. We used our own bank as this felt more secure but you could go through say HIFX or Moneybookers and they will transfer it for you, it could be a better rate. depnds how much you change now, some or all of the final balance. It all feels very insecure I know, we did not even get a receipt from the notaire but it all worked out just fine. You should plan to have the money in the notaire's account before you arrange to sign the final Acte de Vente. We did not get a good exchange rate last year but it is looking better at the moment. You should decide now if you are going to change the whole of the money now or later and risk the pound dropping. This can all be pre booked.Good luck.Georgina
