Boleyuk
Hi,newbie to the forum.I retire in 4 yrs, aged 49. Wife and I are considering a move to France at this point. My query is cost of living. Once our house is sold, we will have around £230k to bring with us(no mortgage). We would look to buy a town centre home, possibly Poitou-Charentes, Limousin area.I would look to spend around £100k max to buy new home, leaving us say (leaving contingencies) £100k savings.I will also have an income of around £18k annually.Wife will prob need to work as she does not get her pension for 5 yrs.Can anyone offer any advice. Would my figures above afford us a comfortable standard of living. I would not mind a part-time job to bring in around £12k?So question is as above, AND can anyone suggest any kind of work that would suit me for the above figures ( I have a smattering of French). OR my wife is district nurse in the UK, so would there be any type of nursing / care work available to her....

Good grief quite a few French people working full time would be happy to earn that ie approx 14000€.Outside of Paris and some jobs elsewhere many people in France do not earn huge wages.Welcome to the forum.Sue
idun
Unless you have special talents which can earn you a good wage, then this is what too many earn, especially in areas such as you have suggested, look at 'montant' for full time work.https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F2300So about 13K€ a year before tax, only they wouldn't pay it on that amount, but with all the other stoppages taken into account. If you are working in France, you would be paying into the health care system, if not, then you will have to pay for your own one way or another, I would think, private insurance initially. And the cost of living. Well, personally I was recently there and buying every day essentials and found them expensive. In fact as soon as the € came in, I found everything went up, as did friends, in spite of the government saying that they did not. And on top of every day essentials, I found clothes and shoes expensive too.
