Moulin
Anyone had trouble using the new 'chip' type Credit Cards in France? Our cards work on the chip in the UK and still work fine on the swipe in France, but if you try to use the chip in France the machines come up with 'Card Invalid' in English!. Had the cards (Visa) replaced but still the same problem. For anyone with a similar problem it would appear that automated machines such as 24hour petrol pumps give priority to the chip because we were unable to get petrol from an automatic pump this weekend!Contacted my Credit Card company and they were totally useless / uninterested
tel
I think if you search the archives you will find a discussion of this subject. I believe the consensus was that the UK card 'chip & pin' technology was totally different to the French system.tel
Baz
Basically the chips used in the UK card are a new improved system and until the French system is updated they can only be swiped. I am surprised your issuer did not tell you as they are fully aware. It could be sometime before french machines are updated and the only way you can get 24 hour petrol would be to apply for a french card.Baz
