potfish
HelloI've searched through these forums and see lots of information about moving money from the UK to France, but nothing about moving money the other way.I live and work in France at the moment and have some money I want to move back to the UK.I phoned HIFX and they said I'd have to wire funds from my French account to them, which since they are UK-based would incur international charges with my French bank. That seems to defeat part of the object of using HIFX, even if the rates are still attractive.Has anyone got any recommendations on the best way to move my money back to the UK?Maybe there are companies who do the same thing as HIFX but based in (or at least with a presence in) France? We're talking around 25K euro now and another 15K euro six months' time. Many thanks for your help.potfish
Teamedup
I don't know how much you want to transfer, but you can transfer up to 1250 euros for a charge of around 4 euros as long as you have the precise IBAN and SWIFT numbers to transfer it to and it must be marked SHARE.I do this regularly and I never incur charges for this amount to be paid into our UK Account. I have even done this more than once a month and the charge is still around 4 euros. I bank with an HSBC bank here and in the UK and the exchange rate I receive is always very competitive.I'm sorry I don't know what it would cost to send more than this amount, but I imagine an awful lot more. Baz
Potfish,I am about to also transfer a large amount out of my French Bank back to the UK. I am using another Money Brokerage Company that operates an Euro Account within EU and the money is firstly transferred in Euros to them before they convert to sterling for onward transmission to my UK Bank. I understood from my French Bank that this method would not incur heavy charges. However, once I give the instructions I will check everything, I do know that this is a far cheaper method than my French Bank paying direct into my UK Bank account.Baz
potfish
Baz - please let me know how it goes. Can you at least give me the name of the company you're using so I can start checking them out?Teamedup - I'm looking to transfer quite a lot more than the 1250 euros but thanks for the response anyway! Judie
I transfered 20,000 euros from Societe Generale to Natwest the other week and paid 13,50 euros in total charges. The money arrived in two working days. The only thing I had to do was to advise my bank manager of the reason for the transfer.Judie
