Dolly
Some time ago in the forum archives I read that to live in france a guaranteed income is needed.I can no longer remember what this amount was. Can anyone tell me if this still applies and what the amount is for a couple. Also are savings taken into account? Thanks, Dolly.
Val_2
In the old days (before last year at least) a couple wishing to reside here and obtain their carte de séjour had to have a minimum monthly income of £500 equivalent received here, but since there is no obligation now to apply for a cds, the authorities have no idea of what people coming here to live, have in the way of income and savings, so no, it dosn't apply. HOWEVER, if you come to live in France with no income or savings and no prospect of work and need financial assistance or medical help then you would be in a lot of trouble as no one knows of you especially if you are not in the "system" and benefits here are not awarded willy-nilly. Unemployed people on the dole here have to compulsory attend interviews every so often and benefits are fairly low anyway compared to the UK.
