recommended accountant..?

I've been in France for over two years now and still haven't found a French accountant. You can write, leave telephone messages, email and say they've been recommended to you but rarely do they get back to you. I think they have enough work and don't feel the need to go out and 'tout' for business. I've tried Englsih accountants practising in Paris and they're pretty much the same but certainly more expensive. Haven't tried those English accountants living in England who advertise in Living France and other expat rags, though.

Best bet, if you're just starting a simple business, is to go to your local Chambre de Commerce. Thy are, surprisgnly, ver helpful and can give you loads of info on setting up a business.

When you register as an artisan at the local Chambre de Metiers as this is what you will classified as,they will put you on a week's intensive course there on how to run a business in France. One of the speakers will be from a local Gestion de Comptabilité (here in Brittany ABG deal with all the artisans as they are specialists in different trades) and they will give you info on their services, costs and paperwork involved. However it is not cheap but you must have an accountant because the paperwork here is horrendous and not at all straightforward. If you do sign with a gestion de comptabilité you will be required to pay by direct debit every quarter, plus a membership fee each year and then another charge after all the accounts have been completed and submitted to the tax authorities and this is very expensive I must warn you (we pay just under 800€ per quarter plus bookeepers fees, plus another 500€ membership and about 750€ for the accounts paperwork.

Wow, and I thought my EUR 1500 was dear!

I actually do have an accountant but they're rubbish. I keep asking questions and they keep ignoring them; maybe that's typical of French accountants.

I did receive a recommendation for one who's near Herault which I might be taking up. That's about two hours drive from me but I figure that travelling a bit further will probably be worth it in the long run. She specialises in dealing with us foreigners but is French (she speaks good English).

I have been searching for an English speaking accountant close to us (we're in Quillan) and have been told there is one in Limoux - a Monsieur Ferran - who is supposed to be very good.  His telephone number is 0468 31 65 23 and his address is 8 chem Tauduret, 11300 Limoux.
