Polremy
i have just received a form to claim exemption from uk tax for my invalidity pension. i will still have to pay uk tax on my teachers pension. now, if i fill in this form, am i making yet another mountain of paperwork for myself? presuming i am granted this exemption, will i then have to pay french tax on the invalidity pension? (just over £200 per month) if so, will this be less than the uk amount?if i just ignore the form what will happen? it seems a lot of hassle if the end result will be that i receive tax bills here in france instead of having tax deducted automatically in the uk. just trying to keep my life simple and stressfree!!!any advice would be very welcome.thanks. jean
Ron Avery
Your teachers pension will be taxed in the UK as it is treated as a government pension, but if you are a resident in France you do not have a choice as to where your other income is taxed, This is what I got from NottinghamI would advise that your do NOT have a choice in the country to which you must pay tax. You will be liable to tax in your country of residence, and failure to apply for exemption from UK tax may result in your being liable in both countries. If you have any further queries for the Centre for Non-Residents, please do not hesitate to contact us. Our office is open Monday - Friday, 7.30am until 5.00pm.For married couples French income tax is generally lower than in the UK and if you have a modest pension, you may find you pay no tax at all.
