justinandeloise
Does anyone know what happens in terms of tax if you receive an inheritance from the UK?
LesLauriers
I believe that it is taxable if you have been a French resident for 6 of the last 10 tax years.Someone else may have personal experience.
Hegs
This 6/10 is my understanding as well. I found a reference to it on the French Embassy site here, it is very clear, section F/ INHERITANCE AND GIFT DUTIES, I suggest you print out a copy!http://www.ambafrance.org.uk/fiscal/maj/menu/fiscalitefr/pardeugr.htmI have not seen any reference to the double taxation treaty in respect of inheritence, therefore it is possible that you could end up paying tax twice on the inheritance. justinandeloise
Thank you to the above for your help. The French Embassy site is a mine of information - I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. Anyway, I feel slightly more at ease now. Eloise.
