Tried to do it and it wouldn't let me. So it is by post again for us this year.
Why wouldn't it let you TU ? This your first return?   I did it today, had no problem withe the electronic certificate download or the return,  (That is when you know which boxes to fill in )  It is not completely user friendly as you have to know in advance which forms to ask for and which bits of those forms to request, but after a couple of hiccups and help from the lovely Francine in the SW tax office, mission accomplished, I hope

Sorry I'm very stupid but can you use this facility for the first time?

I have only just found out (last night) that we needed to send in a tax return, we did not recieve one by post.I knew it was going to come but have not been aware when. I think I understand on this site that there are delay dates for internet applications so I might be alright.

I don't think it can be TU's first time....

They were saying on the radio this morning that the dates are longer with the internet declaration and that the server has been saturated and people have been getting up at all hours to try to get it done. Apparently there were lots of people over the Easter weekend.

Lilly, I don't think you can, but you've got until Monday to get it in the post!

Ok I've read this on a different topic, looks like I'm up s*** creak, not suprising as I am having a bit of a struggle with everything at the moment, but I suspect I'll get a ripping off which I can well do without, can anyone tell my gently what the outcome for missing the boat is? Thank you in advance for all gentle answers.

You cannot do your first return on line as the " qualifier" to log in is your taxable sum from 2003.

Don't panic yet, all you need to do is go to your local tax office and fill in the form there, you may find it busy but you may also find some help with completion if you are prepared to wait.  Take all the info that you hink you will need like evidence of income and you should be able to do it today or on Monday.

It was my first time to do a declaration by the internet. So I filled in the forms I had and am sending them off today as they have to be in by Monday.

Lilly, they don't send out forms to people for their first declaration, it is up to us to get them from the Mairie or Hotel des Impots. That is what you meant isn't it? The forms must be in by midnight on the 4th of April around here. Otherwise there is a penality added to the bill. I don't know the dates for the rest of France.

When I asked around I'm not the only one that the impot system was acting up with.

Yes there was an overload around 12-00 on Thursday, but it calmed down after that and I got my amended return in OK just after 14-00.

My wife (French) has just spoken to the local tax office, as we were in the same boat. They had no record of us, despite having filled in various forms in previous years. The nice man said that the Monday deadline was not written in stone, and said he could see us on Thursday next week, and will be sending the forms to us today.

I am naturally wary, but I know it does make a difference as to how much you pay in tax d'habitation.
