Nick Trollope
There are several taxes to pay;Tax Fonciers - for the property, based on a notional rental value, I believe.Tax d'Habitation - for occupation (even if it is a holiday home)These two are paid by the occupier or owner of the property on the first Jan by the 15 December of the same year, in arrears. There are also rubbish collection, sewerage and the like taxes to pay. Overall, Brittany costs about the same as the Midlands. Your Agent, Notaire, Mairie or Tresor Public should be able to tell you the exact amount of tax. If you have just bought the property, unless you have agreed otherwise, TdH & TF will not be payable (by you) until December 2006.Plenty of other info on the forum, do a search. Shane
We had a cottage in the Dordogne with 5000 sq mtrs of land, 2 bedrooms, kitchen/diner, lounge and large barn attached and paid 189 euros in total for taxe d'habitation and taxe fonciere, including rubbish collection, that was for the year which is alot cheaper than the uk, and we had street lights incidently. The roads in the hamlet were always well maintained too.
