Bobdude
Two questions, in the hope that someone can clear things up in my head! Firstly, we filed our 2004 declaration last April. Owing to not receiving the forms until two days before the deadline (!) we opted for the Micro Foncier scheme for a house we rent out in France. (Thus avoiding the need for detailed income and expenses listings) However, when next year's forms are due (2005) I am wondering whether I can claim an allowance against tax for repayments on a bank loan taken out specifically for repairs to the property (verified by bank documents and factures from artisans) or whether I could only claim an allowance for interest paid on the loan.Second question - regarding Capital Gains Tax. I am aware that factures for materials used on renovating the property are not accepted against capital gains tax in France (only factures from Artisans) but does the same apply to Income Tax?Thank you. Ron Avery
I suggest you ask your tax office. I went to see if could claim for my central heating installation by an artisan TVA paid etc, I learned on here after making the return that I could claim for it as it met the criteria for energy saving systems, the lady apologised and told me I could have claimed at the time of the return, but it was now too late to claim for 2004. You may well get the same answer
Teamedup
RA I would suggest that you ask again. They can go back a bit and have been known to do so. The problem is that interpretation comes into play and even in the same region, one office will say one thing and another will say something else...... So I would say go and ask at least a couple of times. Ofcourse they may tell you no every time, but I really do think that you should give it a go.And remember it does say on your Avis d'Impot ' en cas de reclamation blah blah blah ........ contact your centre d'impot before 31/12/2007 '. Ron Avery
Thanks TU, I must admit that I was a little surprised to be told that it was too late given the statement about reclamation that you quoted, ( EDIT although that does refer to the calculation of tax to be paid) its a pity I never thought of that at the time. I might just drop an E mail to the query line in the SW tax office. Although it seems that as far as they are concerned the 2004 tax year is finished and paid, I cannot see why this cannot be actioned now.
