MKT
Can anyone advise where on my declaration de revenues (if indeed anywhere) I have to put the £500 i was left (in the uk) by a godmther when she died last year?. I am french resident. If anybody knows how it will be treated that would be even better but i'll settle for just knowing where to put it! thanksMaria
Miki
Personally speaking, I would say it is no big deal. Keep it, say nothing and just carry on as normal. Now that is what I would do and unless some official comes on and says differently, that is what I suggest. Hegs
You won't have to pay gift tax on overseas bequests until you have been tax resident for a number of years (5 out of last 7 I think). I agree with Miki, it's unlikely to become an issue unless you raise it.
Sunday Driver
You can easily hide £500 in your spare socks. If you use sweaty socks, then the Douanes won't dare look ......PS Gifts are taxable from the day you become tax resident in France.
LesLauriers
PS Gifts are taxable from the day you become tax resident in France.
This is not a gift, it is an inheritance and therefore the 6 year rule, that Hegs refers to, should cover it. If not, why not?
