Mozman
OK so this isn't about High Finance:lolSince we bought our French home 4+ years ago we seem to have accumulated mountains of loose change. I keep finding it in various receptacles both in England and our Norman Home. You know how it is...you get home, empty the loose shrapnel out of the purse/wallet so it doesn't get mixed with Sterling. Put it in a pot, forget about it.Now I usually weed out 20 cent bits and above to use in Houlgate Casino, or on the Toll road etc. But I have loads of 10 cents bits and another huge pile of bronze. So what can I do with them....does it work like in England where you get bags from the bank to fill and then exchange . Any suggestions?
Polremy
just take a big handful of bronze bits with you every time you go out. i find that shopkeepers have no objection to you tipping out a pile of them at the till. they will gladly help themselves. mind you, you can feel a bit of a wally. you just have to get over it. Rob Roy
You can change them at the bank/post office. They will give the appropriate money bags or plastic coin tubes to fill.
Just Katie
Dont you get those machines in French supermarkets where you tip all your coin into them? They sound like someone is winning the jackpot then they issue you with vouchers to spend in the supermarket.I keep a bottle to change at christmas but with a pair of teenagers it is always empty. We had sausage and mash for christmas dinner last year[:(]
Tresco
But Katie, don't those machines charge you for sorting out your change? You'd be better off paying the kids a farthing or two. Sausage and Mash sounds fab for Xmas Dinner! i'm going to put it on my wish list.PS, we use all the shrapnel to buy bread.

Jc
I always use the small change to buy the baguettes;the baker seems grateful to have a supply of small change.

Mozman
I'm sure they would....but I am not in a position to give away so much money at present! I sat and counted it last night and it amounted to over 55 euros!I'll try and remember to buy my bread with change...but even if I do I suspect spending 8 weeks a year in France generates more change than I would be able to 'eat' in the form of Baguettes in that space of time. :lolI'll investigate the Post Office when next in town and see what they can do. I'm a bit nervous about the bank...its bad enough trying to get through the door without having to ask for anything once I'm inside!
Graham & Brenda
Most shops, especially bakers will love you if you turn up with change. Just hold your purse open in front of them and they won't be able to resist helping you find the right money. You could make lots of friends! Nick Trollope
Charity boxes would be grateful...
Have you seen many charity boxes in France? Apart from McDo's (and theirs is their own charity), we have failed to find any for Tina's shop. Even the SPA can't come up with the goods,,,
