Gyn_Paul
My how time flys... seems hardly a year since this question came up!I've set up my impots sur les revenus to be paid online on or after the due date (15th Sept in this case) and I was required to print out an adhesion du telereglement which should go off to the bank.If I do, does this mean that next year the tax will be paid out automatically like a direct debit ?If I don't, will this year's payment still go through?p
Lollie
Hi PaulWe did it that way at first and we had to do the same process each year. Now we pay monthly, obviously D earns too much!!!!!!LollieLuv to Gyn
Gyn_Paul
Yes but as you know we'd have 2 x TdeH, 2 x TF and the recently added income tax all coming out of the account in Machecoul without my having the slightest idea when it all happened. Not a good idea; I'd far rather log on and electrically pay each one as it arrives!p(gyn says 'Hi' and love to Dave)

Sunday Driver
Your avis d'impot should be dropping into your letterbox about now. I received mine last Saturday - payable by 15 September. It was only 272 euros, so I don't think I'll be bothering with instalments. Just waiting for the refund of the £2,100 I paid the bloody Inland Revenue for the same period......[;-)]
Llwyncelyn
Just managed to get the refund from H M C and I R. They did not like doing it and said they would be checking with France to make sure I had made a declaration this side. Also managed to get back tax deducted from interest on savings but that is another matter. thanks
Benjamin
That's interesting that you were able to get a UK refund without completing an FD5 and submitting it via your local French tax office. We completed and submitted these three months ago and they've still not been received in Nottingham although to be fair it could be that the French tax authorities held them back until they were able to enter a French tax reference number as this was our first year of submission. If they've not been received by Nottingham in another couple of months then we'll need to start chasing from this end. Has anyone else experience of how long this process normally takes?Benjamin
Sunday Driver
I handed my FD5 into our local tax office and they said it would have to be sent to Paris for onward transmission to Nottingham (that routing instruction is also explained on the form). They need to put the French tax reference number on to confirm we're now under the French tax regime. That said, a friend of mine just got his local tax office to stamp his FD5 then he sent it straight back to Nottingham (without his new tax reference number) and has already had his refund....[:(]
Llwyncelyn
We had the same problem its France its England with consumer/ customer in between both parties. We were getting nowhere started a complaints procedure. The end result they repaid the tax paid in the UK. As I said they were not happy! We were shunted between Nottingham and Liverpool so I said enough is enough.Best of luck
Sunday Driver
From your posts, it looks as if you weren't following the correct HMRC process for obtaining a refund of tax, so I'm not surprised you were shunted. Given that you were doing everything wrong, what grounds could you possibly have had for starting a complaints procedure?
Llwyncelyn
I am sorry but this is on the basis that the forms were signed here in France and sent back to the UK and the UK said never had them and please could you kindly repeat the exercise.I really do not wish to get into any discussion as to the values or otherwise but all I am saying is that the tax refund is in my bank account or should I say was in my bank account in the UK but is now here. You must make of that what you will! Llwyncelyn
Please forgive me but just re-read your mail and here I presume that HM Customs and IR always get it right? Is it April the 1st.When you are self employed in the UK and have to pay in advance what they and I mean they being the HM Customs and IR decide you should pay and there is limited appeal please come back to me and have a logical discussion. Until then I suggest you say nothing.
Sunday Driver
Sorry, but you appear to have misunderstood the point I was making. It was not about HMCR always getting it right, rather about you not appearing to do it properly. The correct procedure for processing your request for a refund of UK tax is published by HMCR and form FD5 contains precise instructions to you and the French tax authorities on how to handle their certification. That means the local tax office must stamp your FD5 and send it to Paris. Once your tax declaration has been processed, Paris will enter your new tax reference code on the FD5, file the copy for their records and send the original to Nottingham. Nottingham will process your refund request (on the basis that you are now properly certified as being under the French tax regime) and amend your UK tax file accordingly.According to you, you appear to have sent your FD5 direct to Nottingham without it going through the proper process on the French side (you confirm that HMCR are going to have to check with the French authorities to make sure you had made a declaration there). If HMCR were unable to trace receipt of the form through the proper channels, then their request for you to resubmit it would appear to be reasonable, given they'd want to process your refund without undue delay. I know you'd have preferred me to say nothing, but I still can't figure out the need for initiating a complaints procedure......
