house improvements

This morning received the documents in respect of is it taxe fonciere.  Has gone up but marginally and nothing at all to be concerned about.

However we are now concerned in that whilst we have not carried out any works that require building approval we have internally created two more bathrooms and converted the attic.  I feel sure that I should bring this to the attention of the Tresorie?

Finally still no avis from the Tax guys at St Lo.

I would have thought that converting an attic to living accommodation (assuming it wasn't before) did require a declaration de traveaux, at least (don't tell us that the conversion took your house over 170M2!).

That apart, you can a) advise your local Marie (or the Tresor), or b) wait until they send you a form (which seem to come round every 2 years, here) and admit to the changes then. Because you have increased both the number of SDB and the floor area, you will pay more taxes (suprise, suprise). You will have to hope that they do not notice the increase in floor space.

Thanks and before converting the attic we spoke to various people (and discounted what the builder said) and seemingly in that it had been used before for living accommodation we did not require approval.  However we live in France so on Tuesday down to the Tresor and point it out to them.

Pay your bills and hopefully what is left over is for you to spend.  Not always the case though!
