Tax de Habitation

Do any of you lovely people know the situation with the taxe de habitation?

I was rather shocked to see the size of my bill and was looking inside at the vast amount of wording when I saw what appears to be a "clause" stating that over 60s and widows and widowers are "exempt".!!!

My French is not that good and I may have got it all wrong, particularly as my property is a residence secondaire which may make all the difference.

If anyone has any knowledge re this I would be most grateful.

Indeed I would be most grateful if it were just a reduction.  During the 6 years I have had the house everything has crept up and up and it is beginning to be a problem paying all the outgoings.

You need to be on a low income to qualify for the exemption which, in any case, only applies to a main residence.

if your over 60 or a widower you are exempt of the taxe hab but i dont know if it covers  tax fonc as well

Our tax to be paid now is €545. It was €557 last year. I haven't been in touch with them about anything and I'm paying the TV licence part just like last year.

Can this be right?

This is inaccurate - see BJSLIV post above, which is accurate.

It certainly is right ! I've had a closer look at the bill. It shows Année 2007 as more than Année 2008.
