westland
Now that the TV licence is paid via the taxe d'habitation on a Jan-Dec basis does anyone know what the position is if a TV is bought part way through a tax year ie would we need to make some sort of declaration now or wait until the next tax year to declare on the tax form that we now have a TV. Thanks, Kate.
cooperlola
When we moved here, we were in the same position. I contacted the tax office and (can't remember quite how) paid the part year direct - I do know that they showed me how to do this. Saved hassle later. Bob T
I was in the same situation and asked a French freind, he said that here in France you don't pay things till youare asked to, so we left it.

Catalpa
We had a part-year payment too and wrote to the relevant office for our area to ask how much we needed to pay. We had a letter back telling us to wait till the following year when it would be included in the taxe d\hab. We deduced from that they were not interested in the part-year. We kept the letter as proof that we had offered to pay... [Www]
westland
Thanks for your replies: we have been told from the local impots office to tick the box on next year's tax return as this year's applied to 2005 when we didn't have the TV. I suppose that we have had a similar official opinion to that given to Catalpa.
