Newbuyer
We are looking to buy a small property (60 sq.m) in Drome Provencal but are having difficulty getting estimates on the annual taxes that would be due. Can anyone give me any indication on the scale the taxes, or how I could determine the taxe d’habitation and taxe foncières? I would like to have some indication of the range of costs I could expect before I commit to buy. Unfortunately the estate agent does not seem to have this information – much to my surprise. Further I understand that it is “possible” to set-up the purchase in such a way that if held for more than 5 years I would not be liable to French capital gains tax, but I cannot find out any further details on what this means. Can anyone give me more details? I am a UK national and would not be resident or tax domicile in France.
cooperlola
I find this a bit bizarre because these figures were on the details of the properties we looked at - as well as annual fuel costs - and we were given to believe it was obligatory to do so. Is this wrong? These taxes vary from property to property and commune to commune so are hard to guesstimate. If you have a specific property in mind - as the owners if you can see their bills. Benjamin
Welcome to the forum Newbuyer.Tell the selling agent to get off his a*se and get the information on taxes for you. If they are not willing to do that for you then I'd be worried about any other service you are going to get from them. Taxe d'habitation can be based upon personal circumstances and therefore what the current owners are paying is not neccesarily what any potential purchaser would pay.As far as I've heard (but no expert) the normal length of time the diminishing scale for capital gains is spread over is 15 years.
