Widows pension from UK

Hi

I know I will have to check all this out with the authorities but at the moment my best friend in France just needs support. Her English husband of 66 died suddenly of a heart attack. He was in receipt of a UK Pension. She is a lot younger than him and French but spent many years in the UK. She has two children, one only about 7. Would she be entitled to a Widows pension on the back of his state pension considering he paid for a full pension. He only received one year of that (which I know is irrelevant BUT). She has also paid NI for the years she was in the UK.

The last 8 weeks here have been awful - one of those times when you are scared to talk to people in case they tell you of another heart attack (3 so far in men in their early to mid 60's) and we are a rural area.

I am posting this in the hope that someone may have come across something similar and be able to give me some idea of what happens next. Luckily she is bi-lingual so dealing with the UK authorities will not be too hard.

Thanks - oh and I have not evaporated, just had a couple of years of bad health which is now starting to be under control with drugs but it takes me three times as long to do anything.
