Amandap
We received a letter this morning from our local Tresorier entitled as above. There is a 'Somme a payer' due by 15/02/07. I'm guessing its an 'up front' payment for 2006 based on 2005. We didn't have anything like it last year, but that would have been an up front payment for 2005 based on 2004 and we didn't arrive until September 2004.Can someone reassure me its not MORE money we owe from 2005 - PLEASE.ThanksAmanda
suein56
Hi AmandaIt should be a part payment for 2006. We arrived in 2005 and made our first and only tax payment in November 2006. The way it was explained to us was that this single payment situation occurs only in your first payment year and subsequently there are stage payments - approx February, June and a catch-up in September/October. Though this time-table is likely to be thrown into disarray because the tax people are very behind due to the introduction of the pre-filled in tax forms.Hope this is right.Sue

Llwyncelyn
Hi Spg we too made our first return for 2005, and did indeed pay our social contributions plus tax last year. Based upon that our local Tresorier created for us prelevements so we are paying for ten months. Of course, there are those who say why pay for something which is not yet due? They would be correct but our view is that we pay just about everything by prelevements and for us its easier. As well we have obtained an 8% reduction in our overall bill, for we are of course giving the French Govt their money partially in advance. However slight problem and here I am grateful to another contributor in that our tax was based upon a credit of 40% for the installation of a wood burning stove. This was a one off so our tax will of course increase. Thus I will increase our monthly payments so when the demand comes in we will hopefully be ahead of the game. Also due to the strength relative wise of the pound I have moved across the equivalent of our collective ten monthly payments of all prelevements be it insurance top us insurance or whatever so have benefitted marginally. Teamedup
For any of you who have a prelevement, you can change it once during the tax year and that is all, or so I was told in December.......... because I had already changed my prelevements for January 2007 then. One doesn't have to wait for the declaration to arrive to do it, IF ofcourse you have a very good idea as to what you will be paying for 2006's tax.
